MAURITANGA

Mauri is the life force, the vital essence, a motivating force. Mauri sets the state for your overall sense of wellbeing. Mauritanga is the sense of taking active control over your state of mauri. Three states of mauri have been incorporated into the Nuku Manawa Rahi self-assessment tool: Mauri moe, a state where potential is as yet unrealised; Mauri oho, sparks of interest and the realisation that change is possible; and Mauri ora, an action oriented stage of striving towards full potential (Carey, 2016; Keelan, 2014; Pohatu, 2011). Through mauritanga, Ngākau Arataki supports the notion of actively engaging in enhancing life force or vital essence by embarking on a journey towards a healthier, happier life. Mauri is one aspect of health and
wellbeing. Recognising the health of your mauri is an important aspect for 
change. No matter what the challenges of life are, the overall goal is to achieve
a sense of Mauri tau - a sense of balance and a state of content.
